One person shot after brothers get into fight in North Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) - One person was shot in the hand after three brothers got into a fight early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Banyon Place in North Beach Plantation around 3:00 a.m. When they arrived, they found two of the brothers, Obrien Sweeney and William Sweeney lying on the ground, according to a report provided by the City of North Myrtle Beach.

The other brother, Calvin Sweeney, and another man, Jerry Johnson, were found on a stairwell landing.

Johnson had a gunshot wound to the hand. As an officer reached to grab Calvin Sweeney, Sweeney pushed the officer and was placed in handcuffs.

According to witness statements, the three Sweeney brothers got into a fight in the living room. According to a report provided by North Myrtle Beach Spokesperson Pat Dowling, when Johnson tried to break up the fight, the following happened:

W. Sweeney pushed Mr. Johnson to the ground and exited the residence.  Mr. Johnson went back upstairs.  The witnesses alleged that W. Sweeney returned inside carrying a silver pistol by his side.  The witnesses allege that Mr. Johnson came back down from upstairs with his pistol after hearing W. Sweeney came back with a weapon. Mr. Johnson was met on stairwell landing by O. Sweeney and C. Sweeney and a struggle ensued.  During the alleged struggle, the firearm accidently discharged, striking Mr. Johnson in the hand.  W. Sweeney and O. Sweeney statements were similar to the witnesses except they deny W. Sweeney had a weapon.

All three Sweeneys were arrested. William and Obrien Sweeney were arrested for fighting. Calvin Sweeney was arrested for fighting and interfering with police.

The three have since been kicked out of the North Beach Plantation neighborhood.
