Marion County School District announces makeup days

MARION, SC (WBTW) - The Marion County School District announced makeup days for school missed because of winter weather in the beginning of January.

The Marion County Board of Education approved to change Monday, January 22 from a professional development day to a make-up day for students. Students were out of school January 3 - 5, due to snow and icy road conditions.

The other two days will be February 23, and March 16, which were already built into the school calendar as emergency or inclement weather makeup days.

The total number of days missed and made up this school year is now four, following the district's cancellation of school on Sept. 11 due to Hurricane Irma. That day was made up on Dec. 20.

State law mandates school districts make up the first three days missed due to bad weather or other circumstances. After that, the school board can forgive the next three days missed, or schedule a makeup day on Saturday.
