Florence County sheriff’s deputies arrested six people Thursday in connection with a gang-related shooting the occurred on New Year’s Day near Olanta.

Five people were shot in the incident, which happened just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at 414 Hyman Circle. The shooting stemmed from an altercation that happened earlier in the evening in the parking lot of The Quarters nightclub just off U.S. 301, Florence County Sheriff’s Capt. Todd Tucker said.

Anthony Terrell Hickson, 26, of 4186 First St., Lot 18, Olanta, and Timothy Hickson, 20, of 528 N. Jones Road, Olanta, each are charged with one count of assault and battery with intent to kill, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.

Shamaine Montrell Roberson, 21, 160 Joy Drive, Olanta, is charged with three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, while William Alexander Hickson, 18, of First St., Lot 20, Olanta; Christopher Anthony Hilton, 17, of 548 N. Young Road, Olanta; and Mildred Monica Montgomery, 19, of 115 Washington St., Lake City; each are charged with misprison of a felony, booking reports show.

Two other suspects wanted in connection the case remain on the loose, Sheriff Kenney Boone said in a press release.

“I thought we would have had them this morning,” he said. “But I feel like we will have them in the next 24 to 48 hours.”

Boone said in a press release that every available resource at the sheriff’s office’s disposal was used in this investigation “so that the responsible individuals could be identified and arrested. I hope that these arrests will diminish gang activity in the Olanta area and send a clear message that the law enforcement community will respond quickly and aggressively to gang related crimes.”

One of the resources Boone mentioned is a 25-member task force to control gang violence in Florence. Twelve of the 25 members worked on the investigation of this case.

The sheriff’s office has identified 51 different gang-related groups within Florence County, Boone said. Twenty of those are based within Florence city limits, he said.

“It is a problem and we are proactively and aggressively going after these situations,” he said.
