A Shelby, NC, man was stabbed to death and two Shelby, NC, residents were arrested and charged in connection with slaying following a 9 p.m. Saturday altercation at Ocean Lakes Campground.

Horry County Police responded to the South Kings Highway campground and found Michael Dalton Fitch on the ground, injured, according to a release issued by the Horry County Police Department Sunday morning.

Fitch was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.

"Investigation revealed that the suspect, Adam Taylor Dwiggins of Shelby, NC, was involved in an altercation and was assaulting another person when he was confronted by the victim," according to the release.

"During this confrontation Adam Taylor Dwiggins stabbed Michael Dalton Fitch and fled from the scene," according to the release.

"Investigation also revealed that the suspect returned to his rental unit where he and his mother, Kathy Ledford Dwiggins of Shelby, NC, took specific actions to hamper the investigation and the prosecution of this crime," according to the release.

Adam Taylor Dwiggins, 18, is charged with one count of murder, according to the release.

Kathy Ledford Dwiggins, 51, is charged with one count of accessory to murder, after the fact.

Both were booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center about 4:30 a.m. Sunday and remain there without bond.
