CONWAY – Two state agencies are teaming up to try and keep South Carolinians safe during the summer months.

The SC Highway Patrol and the state’s Department of Natural Resources announced their partnership with each other, to begin the “100 Deadly Days of Summer.”

This is an annual campaign that runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

With more people in the water and traveling roads during the summer, there are naturally more accidents. Workers from the two agencies want to encourage South Carolinians to be extra-careful during these months.

Officials say South Carolina roads are especially deadly because of the high volume of tourists that visit the area. Many out-of-state visitors are not as familiar with the roads and waterways, which can lead to more accidents.

In order to try and keep more people safe, troopers are stepping up their patrol. They will pay close attention to reckless and intoxicated drivers, which includes both automobile and boat drivers.

Representatives from the Highway Patrol and DNR are making stops across the state announcing the campaign.

For the Grand Strand’s announcement, they stopped at the M.L. Brown Building in Conway Monday morning.
