HARTSVILLE — A Hartsville man died after a crash Tuesday morning in Darlington County.

Casey Antwine Hawkins, 28, died when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and collided with a tree, Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee said.

It happened at 8:20 a.m. on Center Road, just north of U.S. 15, according to S.C. Highway Patrol reports.

Hawkins was driving alone south on Center Road in a 2002 Honda Accord when he ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, veered off the left side of the road and flipped. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, according to the highway patrol.

Hawkins was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Hardee said.

The highway patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating.
