ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - Police say a 52-year-old Edgemoor woman charged with driving under the influence after speeding through a school zone told officers she was trying to get her son to school on time.

Authorities say a Rock Hill officer tried to pull Deborah Arnett over Friday after clocking her minivan doing 40 mph in the 25 mph school zone. She continued down several streets before stopping.

Police say Arnett failed several sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer, saying she drank too much the night before and had nothing to eat. Officers say they found a can of beer and mouthwash in the minivan.

Arnett was charged with failure to stop for blue light and siren, child endangerment and driving under the influence. It wasn't known if she had an attorney.
