Demetrius Antoine Rankin, age 31, of 507 Lawson Street, Florence, was arrested by deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office last month after they say he fired shots at a motel and threatened his girlfriend.
According to investigators, on or about January 28, 2013, Rankin became involved in an altercation with his girlfriend at a motel on West Lucas Street, Florence, SC and during the altercation, discharged the firearm in motel room.
He also pointed the firearm at the victim, threatening to kill her, deputies say.
Investigators further allege that Rankin later pointed the firearm at another individual in the motel parking lot, threatening to kill that person if they interfered in the altercation with the girlfriend.
Rankin was arrested shortly thereafter by FCSO deputies. At that point it was discovered that the firearm was stolen and that Rankin had a prior conviction for a violent felony, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm, deputies said.
Rankin is being held at the Florence County Detention Center on a $50,000 surety bond.
Rankin has been charged with Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling (S.C.Code Section 16-23-440), two counts of Pointing and Presenting a Firearm (S.C.Code Section 16-23-410), Possession of a Stolen Pistol (S.C. Code Section 16-23-030, 050) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (S.C. Code Section 16-23-500).
