Erika Hayes co-anchors News13 at 11 weeknights with Bob Juback. You can also catch her anchoring FOX News at 10 on WFXB.
Erika joined the WBTW team in 2010 after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism (go Gamecocks). She started out as the weekday morning reporter before being promoted to morning co-anchor, where she stayed for two and a half years. Now she's enjoying being able to sleep in and bring the news to the Eastern Carolinas at nighttime.
Erika grew up about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA in the suburb of Wexford, and moved south for the weather. She always knew she wanted to be a writer. In high school, she got involved with the school's TV Production class where she helped write, produce and anchor the morning announcements. That's when she knew TV journalism was the route for her.
But to this day, her favorite part about being a journalist is not being on TV, but writing. She loves finding new ways to tell stories that will grab viewers' attention and keep them interested.
In her free time, Erika enjoys working out, bike rides, and anything creative. Whether it's a home improvement project or fun craft, she loves to create. She started painting last year as a way to relax and release creative energy, and now she can't stop.
Erika shoots, writes and produces a weekly segment called ‘News13 Extra Credit' that honors local students, teachers, administrators and parents who go above and beyond, both inside and outside the classroom. She's always looking for submissions. Feel free to email those ideas or any others to email@example.com .
