Charlotte, NC (WLTX, AP) - The University of South Carolina Equestrian team's trip to a meet turned out to be anything but routine Thursday, as their flight had to be stopped right as it was taking off.

The team was set to fly a Delta plane from Charlotte to Detroit as part of their trip to Manhattan, Kansas.

However, as the plane was traveling down the runway, the crew reported a possible bird strike, and the takeoff was aborted. The jet remained on a ramp next to a runway for about 30 minutes while the brakes cooled before it was towed back to the concourse.

No one was hurt.

USC officials confirm that 22 riders, 3 coaches, and one trainer were onboard at the time.

The team eventually took a direct fight to Kansas City for their matchup against Kansas State
