MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) - Horry County police released the name of the man they say caused a police stand off Saturday afternoon.

According to the Horry County Police Department Facebook page, Gary Kenneth Stegall was charged Sunday in connection with yesterday's stand off in Weslin Creek Subdivision.

Stegall is charged with Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature, Pointing and Presenting a Firearm, Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Use of Weapon During a Violent Crime, Assault on Law Enforcement Officer, and Taking Gun from Law Enforcement.

He is being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Police responded to a call at a home on Gallant Street near Holmestown Road around 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Robert Kegler, a spokesperson for the police department, Horry County Police Department was on the scene to escort a female to gather some of her belongings from her home after a domestic dispute.

While this took place, the male suspect came home. Police said a confrontation followed, during which shots were fired.

At the time, police could not comment on who fired shots or how many were fired.

Sgt. Kegler said after the confrontation, the man barricaded himself in a room with a weapon.

At this time, SWAT and Negotiations were called to the scene. Police said that after about an hour, the man peacefully surrendered to police.

According to Sgt. Kegler, HCPD will investigate the incident leading up to the shooting, and SLED will investigate the shots fired.

Michael Perry, a man who lives in the neighborhood, said the man barricaded inside the home was a military service member.
