Havelock Police say a retired Marine from Cherry Point is dead and several others injured, including a suspect, after a shooting at Flyers bar around 1:13 am Sunday.

During the investigation police learned a fight had started inside Flyers bar.  As a result, staff members removed several people who ended up outside in the parking lot.

A little while later, police say 18-year-old Jonathan Richard Pugh, a junior at Havelock High School, returned to Flyers and was blocked from entering the bar. That's when police say Pugh started shooting.

Investigators say 39-year-old Todd North, who was head of security at the bar,  fired back at Pugh.  During the shootout, police say North was shot. North was treated at the scene but later died from gunshot wounds.

North's friends are still trying to figured out why this happened.

"Everybody's in shock. [They] can't believe it actually happened. That it actually happened to North. It's unreal. North is just an amazing guy [a] good friend you can count on him for anything. Just all and all a great guy. It's hard to believe that he's gone," said friend Dale Brown.

"I couldn't imagine it. I was scared. I know somebody who got shot and , it's scary to think that he's gone," said family friend Denise Bays.

Several people were transported to Carolina East Medical Center for further treatment including Pugh. Several other people refused to be transported after getting treatment at the scene.

Two guns were found at the scene; investigators believe one belonged to Pugh and the other to North.

Further investigation revealed one person sustained injuries from a baseball bat.

Havelock Police have conferred with District Attorney Scott Thomas concerning this investigation. Thomas says Pugh has been charged with one count of murder,  but investigators do expect more charges to be filed as the investigation continues.
