CONWAY, SC -

An arrest warrant has been issued for the former director of a SC charity who authorities say funneled millions of dollars from the government to himself and his family.

Norman Lewis, age 32, was indicted last year after federal officials say he took money intended for Helping Hands Youth and Family Services and instead bought extravagant luxury cars and an ocean condo, among other things.

An indictment last summer for Lewis and family members Truman Lewis and Melanie Lewis says that $9 million was used to buy a 700 series BMW, a pair of Bentlys and 2 S-class Mercedes sedans among various other cars -- and a golf cart.

Lewis, who was accused of falsely billing the federal government, was out on bond, but claimed he could not make phone calls to his probation officer because "no longer had a phone," according to court documents. Lewis instead he agreed to come in or call each Monday.

However, authorities say that Lewis was not meeting that condition of his bond and it was revoked. Since then, an arrest warrant was issued earlier this week.

Since the trio's indictment on health care fraud, wire fraud and money laundering the Helping Hands Youth and Family Services has ceased to exist. The charity had offices in Conway, Georgetown, Columbia and Rock Hill.
