FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) -

Florence Police charged a Darlington woman with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person after they say she left her 10-month-old child alone in her vehicle, while she was inside a Florence night club.

According to Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines, investigators were alerted Thursday night, that there was a child left alone in a car seat inside a vehicle in the parking lot of Taboo night club on Second Loop Road in Florence.

Raines said when officers arrived on the scene at about 2 a.m. Friday, they discovered the child in the vehicle and ran the plates on the car to ascertain the identity of the car's owner.

Officers also went inside the club where they located the vehicle's owner, 28-year-old Jessica Tidwell of Darlington.

Raines said investigators were able to determine that Tidwell had left the child in the vehicle alone for several hours.

Raines said Tidwell told investigators that she had only been in the club for a few minutes, but they discovered that that was simply not the case.

Authorities say Tidwell had been at the club since about 10:30 Thursday night.

Raines said that when they got the 10-month-old out of the vehicle, the child's diaper had soaked through clothing.

Investigators arrested Tidwell and booked her into the Florence County Sheriff's Office on the neglect charge, at about 5:45 Friday morning.

Florence Police were assisted by officials with Darlington County's Department of Social Services, who later released the child to the protective custody of a grandparent.
