SULLIVANS ISLAND, SC -

A man stumbled across a shark on the beach of Sullivan's Island early Wednesday.

The shark was about 5 feet long and was apparently not in the water. It's unclear if the shark died.

The photos are from Tyler Jones, but they were taken by his roommate, who came across the shark while running on the beach early that morning.

Expects say that sharks sometimes beach themselves and it's not clear why.

Some sharks have been known to come ashore after undersea earthquakes or for no clear reason at all -- even while swimmers are nearby. (See related story from New Jersey)
