GREER, SC -

The Laurens County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man in the murder of a mother of two young children who went missing more than a week ago -- and was found dead last Friday.

Darrell Ervin Raines, Jr., of Greenville, was charged Thursday night in the murder of Myranda Southern, who had been shot in the back of the neck.

Raines was picked up in Greenville County Thursday night and transported to Laurens County.

He has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Investigators believe Raines and Southern, age 31, talked online before meeting in person a week before she went missing.

Myranda Southern's body was found on Bramlett Church Road August 23, but the coroner only released the identity of the body Thursday.

Just last Friday, a large crowd showed up to remember a woman who had been missing for a week after planning to meet with her estranged husband.

Friends, co-workers and well-wishers of 31-year-old Myranda Southern attended a candlelight vigil at Greer City Park to share stories and pray that the mother of two will be found safely.

Southern was reported missing on Monday, Aug 19 after she left her work at Charter Communications in Simpsonville on early that morning and was scheduled to visit family in Zellwood, Florida.

However, she never arrived.

Greenville County Sheriff's investigators were searching for clues in her disappearance, which has been the subject of speculation among many.

On Friday, a woman's body was found in a field in Laurens County which fueled further speculation when Laurens County authorities alerted investigators from Greenville County who have been handling her disappearance.
