CHARLESTON, SC -

Tuesday authorities released dashcam video of first responders arriving at the scene of a burning vehicle.

The wreck happened yesterday on I-26 eastbound near mile marker 215. Police say 28-year-old Shana Porter's car collided into a tree off of the interstate and caught on fire.

Before all the rescue crews got there someone from a fire suppression company was passing by, heard the call and stopped by to help along with North Charleston officers who arrived at the scene first.

When police first arrive, the blaze is seen on dash-cam video as consuming the car. After a few seconds, police on the scene swing into action.

At least three police officers were seen on video taking hand-held fire extinguishers and putting out the blaze -- all while the woman was trapped in the car.

The policemen use several fire extinguishers each -- and several times they are seen overcome with smoke, having to pause before going near the fire again.

Hoses were finally pulled across the road to put out the fire quickly and that is what saved the woman's life.

Authorities say Porter was wearing a seat belt but she was taken to MUSC in serious condition.

When North Charleston Police arrived at the scene the vehicle was on fire. They contained the fire using portable extinguishers until firefighters arrived.

Firefighters from North Charleston , St. Andrews, City of Charleston fire departments along with Charleston County EMS, and Charleston County assisted with the extinguishing the fire and rescuing the victim.

South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the crash.
