MURRELLS INLET, SC -

Horry County Police released video Tuesday afternoon of a flag burning and vandalism incident at St. James High School on Monday morning.

A 17 year old boy, carrying a machete during the incident, has been charged with various crimes in connection with the incident, which included lighting a "Molotov Cocktail," police say.

The video shows a dark figure first tying doors together with rope from the outside.

More video shows the same person, dressed in a mask and all black, taking at least 7 American flags out of a book bag and putting them on the ground in front of some doors.

The video then shows the suspect spraying liquid – what is likely lighter fluid -- on the flags.

At the last second, the figure in the video moves the flags to nearby doors that can not be seen on video. However, the orange glow of flames can be seen reflected on a column nearby.

Near the end of the video, the person grabs a plant and some leaves to stoke the fire.

Nicholas Ryan Newell, age 17, is charged with Arson 3rd Degree, Disturbing Schools, Carrying a weapon on School Property, Malicious Damage to Real Property, Petty Larceny.

During the fire incident, the suspect was seen on video carrying a pistol and had what appeared to be a machete on his hip. The pistol was later determined to be an air pistol.

In addition to Monday's incident, the suspect has also been linked to a series of American Flag thefts that occurred in Indigo Creek Subdivision last month.
