FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -

A Florence County couple is behind bars after investigators say that children in their care, were exposed to deplorable conditions and severe physical abuse.

Investigators charged Christina Elaine Cox, 32, of Florence, with three counts of unlawful neglect of a child and John Miller Cameron, 37, with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

Authorities say that children in the couple's care were found living in deplorable and unsanitary conditions that exposed them to an unreasonable risk of harm affecting their life, physical or mental health and safety.

In addition, investigators say that the pair also used a stun gun and a belt on the children.

A Florence County Magistrate set bond on both suspects at $9,000.00 each.
