The Florence County Coroner's Office has not released the victim's name.

Beres says the wreck happened at 3:15 a.m. near Old Gapway Road.The Williamsburg County Corner's Office has not released the victim's name.

FLORENCE, SC - According to the FCSO Facebook page, patrols were investigating a dog fighting conspiracy.

Nine people were apprehended and other evidence was seized including four vehicles, three firearms, a small amount of powder cocaine and marijuana.

According to deputies, at approximately 6:00 am Saturday, Investigators descended on a vacant lot directly behind 5104 Heyward Road, Effingham, where the dog fight was getting ready to take place and where a temporary fighting ring had been constructed. 

"All suspects attempted to flee the area on foot but eight were apprehended by deputies in nearby woods and fields," deputies said in a press release.

All were charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act

The investigation led agents to a vacant lot directly behind 5104 Heyward Rd in Effingham.

Authorities said one pit bull canine was turned over to Environmental Services while the other canine escaped apprehension after attacking and bringing down one of the fleeing suspects.

Those charged were:

Robert Harrison, age 29, 1100 block of Candy Lane, Florence, charged with Animal Fighting or Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10).

Benjamin Harrison, age 38, of 5800 block of Pamplico Highway, Florence, was charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10).           

Daniel Parks, age 34, of 130 block of Earl Court, Florence was charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10).  

  George McCall, age 36, of 600 block of Brunson Street, Florence, was charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10). 

 Harold Small, age 35, of 3200 block of Plantation Drive, Florence was  charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10). 

Brandon Williams, age 32, of 2700 block of Ed James Road, Effingham, was charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10)

Rodney Cooper, age 33, of 700 block of Java Road, Florence was charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10).

Walter Taylor, age 59, of 900 block of Mehcanic Street, Florence was  charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10). 

 Edward Windham, age 32, of 900 block of Chesterfield Drive, Florence was arrested  charged with violation of the Animal Fighting and Baiting Act (S.C. Code Section 16-27-10).
