PEARISBURG, VA -

Police caution tape, tire marks and bullet holes are what's left along Thomas Drive in Pearisburg, after a police involved shooting Saturday night.

Teresa Neice lives around the corner and was listening to the entire incident unfold over a police scanner in her house before going to the scene, near Newberry Ford.

"I heard them saying they were chasing somebody and shots had been fired," says Neice. "I was here by myself, I was shaking."

Gary Fleshman lives less than 20-yards from where the suspect spun out.

"They found him and were in pursuit down this road. They came and tried to make this corner and hit the grass right there," says Fleshman.

That's when police say the suspect began shooting at the officers, who started firing back. Neighbors say it was quick. Although they heard as many as a dozen shots, the whole incident was over within minutes.

"I don't know how many rounds they fired. But there's one, two, three.. Probably 4 in the trailer," says Fleshman. "One hit a car over there and one went through the shop. There's no telling how many rounds were fired."

Shots that went into Fleshman's guest bedroom, leaving holes in the walls, closet and even a suitcase. Fleshman says he's fortunate to have been out of the house at the time of the shooting and commends the officers on their quick response.

"The police department has done their job," he says.

As state police continue their investigation with the Giles Sheriff's office, many people in the area are just waiting for more answers.
