Newport Police are searching for two suspects responsible for a Saturday evening home invasion.

Police say it happened at 150 East Chatham Street in Newport. When officers arrived they say they found several victims inside the house suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“I heard some banging on the window in the back bedroom and I came out and the police were there already. They were hollering get in your house, get in your house,”said one neighbor.

Witnesses say two unknown black males entered the house through the back door demanding that everyone get on the floor. As the victims got up, one of the suspects began shooting a small caliber handgun.

Three male victims sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds. They were taken to Carteret General Hospital where they were treated and released on Sunday.  Newport Police say that 2 of the 3 victims are father and son.

People who live near the shooting say this whole situation is frightening.

“ I feel very unsafe. I mean what if a bullet had of came over here. It could have come over here just as well. It’s very scary,“ said a neighbor.

Police say one female, who was inside the home was taken to Carteret General Hospital for observation for a separate medical issue. She did not have any injuries from the shooting.

No items were taken from the residence. A motive for the incident has not been determined.
