SELMA, AL -

Prosecutors in central Alabama say two people accused of hanging a puppy at a house in Valley Grande have been charged with animal cruelty.

Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Michael Jackson said Monday that 26-year-old Caroline Dunnam and 23-year-old Andrew Parrish are each accused of hanging a small mixed breed puppy by its neck from the ceiling.

In an incident report, investigators said they received a tip about the dog after a photo of the puppy dangling by its neck from the ceiling was posted on Facebook.

In mid-December, a man was charged after a photo circulated of a dog seen hanging from a downtown Greenville, SC, condo balcony. In that case, a photo posted on Facebook went viral and also resulted in law enforcement getting involved.

Prosecutors say Dunnam and Parrish surrendered to authorities on Friday at the Dallas County jail and are free on $500 bond each.

"If you have a problem with my personal … page delete me," Dunnam wrote in response to comments about the photo, according to the Selma Times-Journal.

The puppy has been turned over to animal control and it's unclear if Dunnam and Parrish have attorneys.

WSFA reported that the puppy suffered minor injuries, including a broken tooth. The dog is now four months old and is at the Selma Animal Hospital.
