From WJBL-TV

AUGUSTA, GA. -- A student speaks up after video surfaces of her fighting in a local classroom. On Wednesday, we showed you the violent video captured inside a Glenn Hills High School class this week.

WJBF's Dee Griffin has been following this story. She spoke with the girl in that video.

It's the latest video to go viral showing teenagers fighting. But 16 year old Keonna Warren says what you don't see or hear on camera speaks volumes. According to Warren, it started as she talked with another student.

Keonna Warren explains, "The boy was like, 'shut up with your ugly A.' Then the class got quiet. So everybody was like 'he's talking to you' and I was like 'he's not talking to me.'

So he then got up, came from his desk to my desk and got all in my face saying what he was going to do. I handed the boy sitting next to me my phone. I got up then he hit me and we started fighting.

The video shows what happened next as both students go head to head throwing punches and even equipment. Warren says, "he was hitting me very hard. I hit him with the keyboard and then Officer Jackson came and broke it up."

Despite initial reports that she came from another class and charged at the boy, Warren says this was her assigned class and she even participated in the attendance roll. Warren insists she was blind sided by what happened.  "I don't even know his name. I know nothing about him until now."

While the video leaves more questions than answers, Warren's mother is demanding a solution to the problem that resulted in the violence.

"He had time to walk from his desk from two rows over to her desk. Where was the teacher? They're busy putting kids out of school for dress codes and all this other stuff. So, where's the protection for your kids?" Teresa Smith asks.

On Wednesday, we talked with Richmond County Board of Education Chief of Police Alphonzo Williams who says the teacher and officer handled the situation properly.

Teresa Smith admits that she's not proud of her daughter's actions.  But, Smith says she understands why Keonna Warren defended herself.

"I don't put my daughter on a pedestal. I don't think that she's perfect. She's been in stuff herself and yet at the same time it's still an issue that should not have took place."

We have not been able to reach the boy in the video for his side of the story.  Both students are on a ten day suspension.

They must both go to Juvenile Court for a hearing. Also, Teresa Smith says she wants to talk with the boy's mother to work at resolving the issue and moving forward peacefully.
