DAYTONA BEACH, FL -

A pregnant South Carolina woman who drove a minivan carrying her three young children into the Atlantic Ocean in Florida appeared in court Monday, March 17. During the hearing it was revealed Ebony Wilkerson, 32, punched herself in the stomach while jailed.

A Volusia County judge set bond at $1.2 million for Wilkerson. An OB/GYN testified Monday that Wilkerson is 28 weeks pregnant and said she needs to get regular checkups.

She is charged with three counts of attempted murder and child abuse.  Witnesses saw her drive into the ocean with her children inside. The children told police, "Mom tried to kill us".

Wilkerson spend a few days at Halifax Health Medical Center undergoing a mental health evaluation under the Baker Act. The law allows authorities to involuntarily take people into custody if they seem to be a threat to themselves.

Wilkerson claimed her husband sexually assaulted her while on vacation in Myrtle Beach.  March 1, Myrtle Beach police were dispatched to the Hampton Inn Motel for a possible criminal sexual conduct that had occurred between a husband and wife. The woman told police her husband forced her to have sex with her. She was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Hospital per her request.

The couples three children were also in the room at the room. Police say they're still investigating and no charges have been filed.

Earlier this week, bystanders and officers helped pull Wilkerson and her children - ages 3, 9 and 10 - from their minivan as it was almost submerged in the ocean. No one was injured.

Wilkerson was stopped in her vehicle by police officers two hours before she drove into the ocean. Her sister called police worried since Wilkerson had been talking about demons.

The officers found her lucid and let her go.

Wilkerson is scheduled to appear in court March 25.
