COLUMBIA, S.C. (PRESS RELEASE) -

Tuesday March 18, plenty of people will be clenching their lottery tickets to see if they're part of the third-highest jackpot in Mega Millions® history.

The advertised pot is $400 million with the cash option a whopping $224 million. It's also the sixth largest pot ever offered in the United States.

Only two other Mega Millions® jackpots and three others posted by Powerball® were heftier, the biggest a $656 million Mega Millions® jackpot in March 2012.

Sales are brisk in South Carolina, where Friday night's drawing saw more than 65,000 players win anywhere from $1 to $15,000.

Of these, over 20,000 winners purchased the Megaplier® option and will see their prizes multiplied by three.

South Carolinians looking to take a chance on a $400 million jackpot with a reported cash payout of $224 million can buy a ticket for $1 at most convenience stores and grocery stores in our state. Mega Millions® tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The odds of winning the jackpot are long, about one in 259 million.
