COLUMBIA, TN (WKRN) - A home security camera captured a runaway FedEx truck after the driver forgot to make sure the vehicle was in park.

The delivery man was stopped in the area of 4th Avenue and Stewart Street in Columbia Thursday morning when the accident happened.

The driver reported to incident to police.

"It wasn't fully in park," he told a 911 dispatcher. "I guess the shift looked like it was in park but it wasn't all the way there."

The driver went on to say that he walked to the back of the van to pull something out when the truck started rolling down the hill.  The delivery man tried to chase down the runaway vehicle but no such luck.

"I wasn't able to get to the driver's seat in time," he said.

The entire incident took place in front of an audience of barking dogs and was captured by a nearby home security camera.

"I just heard the dogs making a commotion. I looked across the street and saw the van parked odd in the neighbor's yard so I just went and looked at the camera.

I had and saw what had happened," the homeowner told News 2.

The homeowner, who does not want to be identified, said he thought it was funny so he posted the video on YouTube for his family and friends to see.

The man didn't expect what happened next.

"It kind of exploded!"

The video has been viewed nearly seven million times.

The neighbor whose fence was torn down said she had no idea what happened until she got home later that day and someone told her to look at the video online.

"It was spring break, kids were out of school and they could have been outside. We're lucky no one was hurt," she told News 2.

The van narrowly missed the woman's house and a tree she'd recently planted in memory of her mother who passed away.

The homeowner said she contacted FedEx. She was told the company would pay to repair the fence. News 2 left a message for the delivery man and FedEx but did not immediately hear back.
