CONWAY (WBTW) - Horry County is now home to a national title-winning basketball team.

On Friday, the Horry County Unified Basketball Team, made up of police officers, teachers, and Special Olympics athletes, and representing South Carolina, defeated Oregon for the gold medal at the national games in Trenton, New Jersey.

The team members include: Special Olympics athletes Casey O'Conner, Scott Hulit, Chris Sessions, Kevin Sessions, and John Flynn; teacher Heather Karney; Horry County Police Officers Torry Lewis, John Lewis, and Erik Karney. The coaches included Van Abbott, Chris Skipper, and Warren Sessions.

According to a press release, the following athletes also placed in national competitions:

Dawn Eld (bowling), 5th place

David Frantom (bowling), 8th place

Danielle Kitrilakis and Unified Partner Ryan Westmoreland (golf), silver medal

Stephanie Mack (tennis), bronze medal

Randy Vitale (track and field), gold and silver medal

Adam Scroggins (track and field), silver medal
