Adriana Cotero joined the WBTW News 13 team in July 2023. She anchors the weekend 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts and reports alongside the Thursday and Friday morning team. She also produces and anchors the 10 p.m. weekend newscast for Myrtle Beach’s Fox affiliate WFXB.
A Michigan native turned island girl, Adriana’s career has taken her across the world and now back to some sunshine and waves. She was raised in Saline, Michigan, located on the outskirts of Ann Arbor, and is a proud alum of Central Michigan University, Fire up Chips! She received her bachelor’s degree from CMU with a major in broadcast & cinematic Arts and a minor in journalism news editorial. During her college career, she studied abroad in Rome, which led to her backpacking across Europe. In her fourth and final year at the university, she interned at ABC12 News in Flint, Michigan, during the height of the city’s water crisis. It was here, where she got hooked and found a passion in giving a voice to the voiceless.
Shortly after graduating, Adriana accepted an offer to work as a news anchor and reporter in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, for KSPN2News. Within her first year on the Pacific island, the Marianas were devasted by category-5 Super Typhoon Yutu. Adriana closely followed the state of emergency and humanitarian crisis and its impact on the community. However, what touched her and what she was most eager to share was how resilient and united the islanders were in the wake of this catastrophic storm.
Saipan and its beautiful people will forever hold a special place in her heart, as will Guam, where Adriana moved to continue storytelling. She worked for KUAM News, a CBS/NBC affiliate for two years, as an anchor and reporter. The COVID-19 pandemic occurred during her time in Guam, and being on a small, remote island, it was an eye-opening experience, to say the least.
Adriana, her husband and their baby boy are thrilled to be back at the beach and are looking forward to the beautiful sunrises, sunsets and tasting all the local seafood (total foodies!)
