LONGS, SC (WBTW) – A man stole two firearms from a lawn equipment store in Longs, according to a police report.
The suspect also fired off two shots during a scuffle with an employee over a weed-eater, police said.
Horry County police responded to an armed robbery call on Tuesday morning at Wampee Equipment on Highway 90. Once there, police interviewed an employee who said he spotted the suspect and tried to wrestle some equipment away from him.
The employee told police he saw a store owned weed-eater sticking partially out of the suspect’s car, so he grabbed it and was able to pull it halfway out before a physical altercation began, according to the report. The employee was able to remove the weed-eater entirely but then saw the suspect fire a round from a handgun through the top of his vehicle.
After the firearm was displayed and the shot was fired, the employee said he exited the window of the car. The suspect then fired one more round into the sky before fleeing the scene, according to the police report.
The employee did not sustain any injuries during the altercation, police said.
The owner of Wampee Equipment said the suspect took a 22 Remington automatic rifle, valued at $500, and a Savage 410 single barrel, valued at $200, from the office.
