Fatal crash involving log truck shuts down part of East Effingham Highway

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A fatal crash has shut down a section of East Effingham Highway in Florence County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash is on East Effingham Highway at Friendfield Road. A portion of the road has been shut down. Drivers are asked to use an alternate route.

According to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the Highway Patrol, two cars were involved with the crash that happened around 2 p.m. A 2015 Nisan pulled out in front of a log truck traveling east on Effingham Highway. The two vehicles collided and the log truck ran off the road and into an embankment. The driver of the log truck died in the crash. The driver of the Nisan was taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The Florence County Coroner’s Office is responding to the crash.
