Coroner: Death of man at Myrtle Beach Resort ruled accidental drowning

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The coroner’s office has ruled the death of a man at a Myrtle Beach resort as an accidental drowning.

Patty Bellamy with the Horry County Coroner’s office says 52-year-old Shawn Hamlet, of Raleigh, NC, died at South Strand Hospital this afternoon following an incident in the pool at Myrtle Beach Resort. Hamlet’s death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Horry County Police Department is investigating.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a possible drowning Sunday afternoon.

According to Tony Casey with Horry County Fire Rescue, crews were called to 5905 South Kings Highway, in Surfside Beach at around 12:30. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
