MBPD: ‘Armed and dangerous’ barricaded person in custody and identified

SUNDAY 3:15 PM UPDATE — According to MBPD, the person has been identified as 42-year-old Joseph Kenneth Williamson.

Williamson is charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and threatening the life of a person or family of a public employee, MBPD said.

He is awaiting trial with no bond. Williamson’s next court date will be August 12th, 2020.


SATURDAY 3:30 AM UPDATE — The barricaded person incident in the area of Withers Swash Park has come to a safe conclusion.

Myrtle Beach Police officers have taken the person into custody following ‘several hours of negotiation and exhausting all other measures’.

The person is receiving treatment for minor injuries. Count on News13 for updates once we know the identity of the person and any charges made.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department wishes to ‘thank our public safety partners, emergency services personnel, and our special response units for their work and professionalism that produced this outcome’.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) — Myrtle Beach Police posted on social media Saturday that an, ‘armed and dangerous’ person who has barricaded themselves in a residence on Withers Swash Park Dr.

MBPD are asked to avoid the area or shelter in place if already located in the area.
