MYRTLE BEACH AREA, SC (WBTW) – Four people were arrested on drug charges after tips about illegal activity and loitering near a hotel, Horry County police say.

On Wednesday, the Horry County Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted surveillance at the WoodSpring Suites in the Myrtle Beach area after they “received tips about illegal activity and loitering in the hotel’s parking lot,” a press release from HCPD says. Upon arriving at the hotel, officers reportedly saw several people “hanging out in and around two vehicles in the parking lot.”

One person was reportedly smoking marijuana and drinking a beer and other person was “sitting in one of the vehicles, had a loaded handgun and Suboxone sublingual strips, a schedule III drug,” the release said. Police conducted a search of the vehicle and reportedly found ecstasy pills, about 33 grams of marijuana, and a digital scale.

A warrant check reportedly revealed than another person involved was wanted by Horry County and North Myrtle Beach for larceny and shoplifting, the release added. “A search of this subject revealed that he was in possession of Adderall pills, a schedule II drug, and marijuana.“

Police say a total of $2,492 in cash was seized in the case.

The following people were arrested and charged:

  • Cammie Cannon: charges include unlawful carrying of a pistol
  • Mack Gause, Jr.: charges include possession with intent to distribute schedule I, II or III drugs and possession of other controlled substance in schedule I to V
  • Gary Eddy: charges include possession of other controlled substance in schedule I to V

While investigating this incident, officers reportedly noticed another person standing in the common area of the hotel “watching the incident,” the release also said. “Officers saw a plastic bag in his hand containing what appeared to be a light color powder substance. When officers approached the subject and asked him what he had in his hand, he quickly placed the bag in his mouth.”

The man was detained and “eventually spit the bag out after a period of trying to escape from officers.”

Alfonzo Rashard Smalls was arrested and is charged with manufacture, distribution, etc., of ice, crack, or crack cocaine and manufacture, distribution, etc., of narcotic drugs in schedule I, LSD, and/or schedule II.
