Conway robber shot 6 times by victim sentenced to 11 years in prison


CONWAY, SC (WBTW)- A Conway man was sentenced to more than a decade in prison for an armed robbery that ended in a gunbattle.

A release from the Horry County Solicitors Office says 19-year-old Richmond Collier of Conway pleaded guilty to armed robbery before Judge Steven H. John Wednesday. 

According to the solicitor who prosecuted the case, Collier robbed the victim of $20 at gunpoint. When Collier demanded more money and didnt recieve it, he shot at the victim’s car door. The victim returned gunfire and shot Collier six times. 

Horry County police say the incident happened at Tanger Outlets in Septmeber of 2017. Police also noted in their report that the robber’s gun reportedly jammed as the victim emptied his weapon firing shots at the robber. 

Prosecutors asked the judge for a sentence between 10 and 15 years because Collier didnt have a prior criminal record. The judge ultimately sentenced him to 11 years. Collier must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release.
