FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — One person is dead following a head-on crash that has blocked part of Highway 76 in Florence County Thursday morning.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the victim as Brittany Nicole Hightower, 31, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was a passenger in the vehicle at fault in the crash.

Around 5 a.m., Highway Patrol troopers were sent to the area of Highway 76 at the Pee Dee bridge after two-vehicles crashed, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Brian Lee.

Investigators have determined a Mitsubishi was driving east on Highway 76 while a Kia was driving west. After crashing, the Hightower was killed, according to Lee. The driver of the Kia was taken to the hospital, there is no word on their injuries at this time.

There is a detour in place after the area of Highway 76 at the Pee Dee bridge became blocked due to the collision, according to Lee.

The SCHP and Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team are still investigating.
