The crash happened on Hwy 501 near Hwy 544 in the area of the Horry County Schools facilities building, according to Tony Casey, with Horry County Fire Rescue. The person who died was on the motorcycle, and no other serious injuries were reported.

Traffic was backed up on Hwy 501 northbound into Conway and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

The crash happened around 5:09 p.m. on Friday on U.S. Hwy 501 N. at Savannah Bluff Rd., according to Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the SCHP. Three vehicles were involved: a Harley Davidson 2015 model, a 2017 Honda Accord, and a FedEx tractor-trailer.

The Harley Davidson was travelling south on Hwy 501 when it attempted to make a left turn across northbound lanes, Cpl. Collins said. The motorcycle turned in front of the Honda Accord, and the two vehicles hit each other. The motorcycle also hit a northbound FedEx tractor-trailer.

The operator of the motorcycle was killed as a result of the crash, and was wearing a helmet, Cpl. Collins also said. The driver of the Honda Accord was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. No charges are expected.
