Bikers arriving on Grand Strand for 2019 Myrtle Beach Bike Rally

Grand Strand

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – The Grand Strand is getting ready for tens of thousands of bikers to visit the area over the next three weeks.

Tammy Walls wasn’t sure about traveling almost 200 miles from Bear Creek, North Carolina, for her first bike weekend in the Myrtle Beach area.

“I was really apprehensive at first,” Walls said.

She arrived Thursday, but her motorcycle stopped running on a highway in the area.

“My bike knocked off earlier today,” she said. “Some other bikers stopped, helped me pull over and helped me get my bike started again. Now I’m really excited about meeting all these friendly people.”

The 2019 Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, also knows as the Harley bike week, kicks off Friday, as part of the Grand Strand’s three weeks of revving engines and spring ocean breezes.

Wolf Barlow has been coming for Harley bike week since he was stationed at the old Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in the 80s, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division.

“I just like the atmosphere,” Barlow said. “I like the stores and I like everything about it.”

Vendors are already set up outside the Beaver Bar off U.S. Highway 17 Business.

Dennis Ramsey says he’s excited to return to the Myrtle Beach area, after coming here for 20 years.

“One of the best rallies in the nation,” Ramsey said.

Ramsey says he’s hoping to sell his gun holsters and shaving supplies to some of the tens of thousands of bikers expected to be here.

“I would be happy if we get maybe a couple thousand bikers,” he said. “We’ll probably get about 4,000 or 5,000 bikers.”

The Harley bike week continues until May 19.

After that, Memorial Day weekend will be the Atlantic Beach Bikefest on May 24-27.
