Conway police officer treated, released after incident on Highway 501 near Waccamaw River bridge

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Conway police officer was hurt Monday afternoon in an incident that backed up traffic on Highway 501 south near the Waccamaw River bridge, a city spokeswoman confirmed.

The officer was treated at a local hospital and released, according to spokeswoman June Wood, who did not say how the officer was hurt. A South Carolina Department of Transportation traffic camera showed emergency crews on the scene of a crash that blocked the right lane of traffic in the area about 4 p.m.

The scene was cleared by about 4:30 p.m., allowing traffic to return to normal.

No other information was immediately available. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
