NICHOLS, S.C. (WBTW) — Authorities have confirmed the identity of a teen whose body was recovered near Ricefield Cove Landing in Nichols.

The teen has been identified as Tyshawn Page, of Mullins, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. The case has been ruled an accidental drowning.

The victim’s father told News13 his son was hanging out with friends this afternoon by the river when he went under. He said he went to the scene straight from work and has been there for about two hours.

The father said he is frustrated that things moved so slowly. The father said crews were “standing around drinking soda pop” and accused them of not moving urgently. News13 reached out to Horry County police Wednesday afternoon to ask about the father’s concerns. We have yet to hear back.

Crews were called to the area of River Road near Highway 9 near Nichols to search for the victim. Horry County police, Horry County Fire Rescue, Mullins Fire Department, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources were all on scene.

No other information was immediately available.

News13 has a crew on scene and we’ll have a live report on WBTW News at 11 p.m.
