Good times roll in Murrells Inlet for “Marshi Gras”

Grand Strand

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – There was a little taste of New Orleans along the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet.

Tuesday night was the seventh annual “Marshi Gras” celebration. Dozens of people marched in Mardi Gras-style costumes through eight bars and restaurants along the MarshWalk.

The “Marshi Gras” marchers say they love bringing the Bayou tradition up to the Grand Strand.

“Everything I have on, I bought in New Orleans last fall,” said Janet Smith of Murrells Inlet.

“I got all these beads at Mardi Gras,” said Betsy Hacke of Murrells Inlet.

Prizes were given to the marchers with the top three costumes.

“It’s really cool to see the different styles of costumes they come out with and we always have a really good time,” said “Marshi Gras” organizer Brandie Turner.

A live brass band led the “Marshi Gras” celebration along the MarshWalk and performed in some of the restaurants.
