HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — One person was killed Wednesday morning in a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle on Highway 9 near Nichols, authorities said.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, which happened at about 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, an Horry County Fire Rescue spokesman said.

Victor Hugo Parra Navarrete, 27, of Shannon, North Carolina, died from multiple traumatic and thermal injuries after the crash, deputies said.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the person killed was driving a Honda sedan involved in a collision with a 2018 International tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highway 9 and North Nichols Highway. The truck driver was not hurt.

Troopers said the crash occurred while the truck was traveling south on Highway 9 and the Honda was going west on North Nichols Highway.

The highway patrol is investigating. Marion County Fire Rescue also responded to the crash.
