Myrtle Beach man, 47, died in motorcycle crash on HWY 544

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The victim in Sunday night’s motorcycle fatality is Christopher Chavis, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office

He was 47 years old and originally from Laurinburg, NC, but had been living in the Myrtle Beach area.

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say this crash happened just after 8 p.m. on Highway 544 near Highway 707. 

Officials say a GMC pickup truck and a motorcycle, driven by Chavis, were traveling west on 544. The motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup truck.

Chavis died on the scene. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the pickup and the two other passengers are not injured. They were wearing seatbelts. 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this crash.
