MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A new amusement park in Myrtle Beach opened Friday and promises to be a place for families and thrill-seekers of all ages.
The new park, called Funplex Myrtle Beach, sits at 1405 North Ocean Boulevard between 14th and 15th avenues. Entrance into the park is free but there is a fee for rides.
The new addition to the beach features seven family-thrill rides surrounding a walk-up bar and
restaurant. The new Myrtle Beach park’s rides are themed to match the Grand Strand beach
vibe and include:
- Mach Fun, the tallest, interactive 360° flying jet ride on the market, and first-of-its-kind in North America.
- The Fun in the Sun roller coaster featuring a lengthy track encircling the perimeter of the park and a hamster wheel car for thrill seekers.
- The Sky Velocity, which twists and turns up a 65-foot tower before dropping back down to earth.
The two-sided, walkup bar and restaurant offers 13 domestic and local draft beers, frozen drinks in souvenir cups, and traditional bar and seafood options. Off-the-Coast Beach Bar and Grill will offer a complete menu featuring amusement park favorites like funnel cake and a special Chicken and Waffle Cone Appetizer.
Individual ride credits will cost $1.25, or passes can be bought in several price tiers that include bonus credits.
- 24 credits — $25
- 50 credits — $50
- 77 credits — $75
- 104 credits — $100
- 135 credits — $125
“What excites us the most about this project is it’s a unique and innovative approach to the classic amusement park,” Funplex owner Randy Lahn said. “This combination of state-of-the art rides in a compact footprint just one block from the beach is unique amusement park concept and debuting in Myrtle Beach.”
“Because this was such a new concept, we got to add some really cool elements that we believe our guests and the industry will love,” Funplex CEO Brian Williams said. “From first generation rides like Mach Fun and the Fun in the Sun Coaster to a light show like no other, Funplex Myrtle Beach is a must-do attraction.”
