Home of homicide victim burglarized after man’s death in Darlington County

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at the home of a man who was found dead in a wrecked car Monday morning.

Lt. Robert Kilgo with the Sheriff’s Office tells News13 that the burglary happened at a house on Jackson Street, outside of Hartsville. That’s about 12 miles from where the body was found Monday morning. Lt. Kilgo says the incident happened after the person’s death.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee says the man who was found dead has been identified as Swindell Wheeler, born in 1976. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
