LAKE VIEW, SC (WBTW) – Lake View police are searching for the driver of a white cargo van linked to attempted child abductions, according to the police chief.

Lake View Police Chief Wayne Campbell says the white Ram Promaster commercial vehicle – 2500 or 3500 model – has been linked to at least two attempted child abductions.

The first reported incident occurred Saturday when a young girl on her bike was approached by the driver of the van on West 3rd and South Main Streets in Lake View. The driver, a white male between 40 and 50 years old with long dark hair and a scraggly beard, rolled down the window and offered the little girl $100. She got scared and biked home, says Chief Campbell.

Video surveillance from a local convenience store showed the white van coming through the intersection and moments later the little girl pedals away on her bike, corroborating the story.

The second attempted abduction was Sunday when two kids were playing outside off Road 30. The van approached the children, who ran off to the tell their parents, police confirm.

Anyone who recognizes the van or has witnessed a similar incident is asked to call Lake View police at 843-759-2119.
