LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – The Lake City Police Department is investigating after a small child died after being hit by a car Friday afternoon.
Lake City Police Chief Kipp Coker confirms an investigation is underway after a 2-year-old child was struck by a vehicle around 1 p.m. Friday on Augustine Street in the Lake City Housing Authority subdivision. Chief Coker says the toddler was taken to McLeod Hospital but she died due to injuries from the crash.
According to Florence Coroner Keith von Lutcken, an autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The incident is being investigated by the Lake City Police Department and Florence County Coroner’s Office. Officials have not revealed if the driver of the vehicle will be charged in the toddler’s death.
