HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – First responders recovered a body Thursday afternoon after police were called to a drowning at Prestwood Lake.

Lt. Mark Blair with the Hartsville Police Department confirms the male victim was a Coker College student. Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee identifies the victim as Moustapha Cisse, 20, of Orangeburg.

Police arrived to the Coker Boathouse at Prestwood Lake around 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Emergency crews were called in after a group of students were swimming in the lake and Cisse went under and didn’t come back up.

Several officers jumped in the water to search for Cisse, but were unsuccessful. A diver was called in and recovered the Cisse’s body within minutes of being deployed. Police say Cisse had been underwater for close to 45 minutes when rescue crews located him.

The Darlington County Coroner says the cause of death is drowning.

According to police, the Hartsville Fire Department and Darlington County EMS also responded to the scene to assist.
