Driver, Florence grandmother charged in hit-and-run death of child

Two people have been charged in the death of a 4-year-old during a hit-and-run crash in Florence.

The driver of a vehicle involved, Eric Christopher Snowden, has been charged, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the SC Highway Patrol.

Florence County Detention Center booking records list Snowden’s charge as hit and run, duties of driver involved in accident with death. He was booked around 12:24 p.m. Monday.

Cpl. Collins said a bond hearing is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday.  

The child’s grandmother has been charged with unlawful neglect. 

Priscilla Marie Clendenin, 55, was intoxicated while pushing the child in a stroller on Friday night when a car hit the stroller, according to Collins. Clendenin was booked into the Florence County Detention Center on Sunday and released the same day.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the little child as Emily Grace Hall from Florence. 

According to von Lutcken, the child was being pushed in a stroller by her grandmother when she was hit. It happened on Pamplico Highway near Lakeview Drive, von Lutcken said. 

The car that hit the child left the scene. No information has been provided regarding the vehicle. 

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina. 

SCHP is investigating the crash.
