Florence County has imposed evacuations and a countywide curfew as Hurricane Florence approaches.

On Thursday, Florence County Council issued a proclamation declaring a State of Emergency for all of Florence County due to Hurricane Florence. In accordance with the proclamations, officials have implemented the following:

  • A countywide mandatory curfew from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m. for non-emergency activities. Exceptions to the curfew include essential public safety/medical employees and essential industry staff until further notice.
  • The mandatory evacuation along Black Creek of Nena Lane, Split Rail Drive, E. Black Creek Drive, Stag Horn Lane, Atlee Court, Crooked Creek Drive and Creekside Drive, beginning immediately and to be completed by noon tomorrow.
  • The evacuation also includes the following area along Lynches River, Ben Gause Road, Hawkins Landing Road, Meadowprong Road (Dirt portion of the road), Roundtree Road, Fork Road, and North Old Georgetown Road in the vicinity of New Hope and Lynches River County Park.

County officials say the danger to the public will increase as darkness falls, and visibility is further reduced. Officials also ask residents to not attempt to enter flooded areas as it could pose an immediate threat to your safety.

The City of Florence Police Department will require local businesses to close at 8 p.m. in compliance with the mandatory curfew.

“It is understood that some inconvenience will occur due to this requirement. This action by both Florence County and the City of Florence is in the interest of public safety,” says a press release from the city.
